A Busy Day on UP's Canyon Subdivision in Portola, CA (8/20/11)

I visited Portola, CA with Aaron (Aero203) and Andrew (Alwaystrains) for the Portola Railroad Days 2011. We decided to railfan Union Pacific's Canyon Subdivision on 8/20/11 and it was unusually busy on this day as there had been a derailment on Donner Pass just the night before. As a result, most (if not all) of the Donner Pass freight traffic had to be detoured through Portola and the Feather River Canyon! Train symbols are as follows: Train #1 - The KMNOA departs Portola with a 1x1 consist of GEVOs leading. Train #2 - The ZNPOA departs Portola with 3 SD70Ms leading. Train #3 - The AGBMI creeps by stopping further down the line to do its crew change. Train #4 - The KLTG2 meets the AGBMI slowly coming to a stop to make a crew change. The AGBMI later departs after their crew change. The IG4OA meets the KLTG2 as it's arriving at Portola and the KLTG2 is departing. Train #5 - The ZG2LT overtakes the IG4OA heading west. Train #6 - After the ZG2LT has passed, the IG4OA departs with a very nice K5LLA and awesome crew throwing us bottles of water. Train #7 - The BNSF QSTLIJ arrives into Portola meeting a westbound grain train and with an awesome lashup - H2 C44-9W lead followed by a legit Warbonnet C44-9W, an SD40-2, and an ex-BN whiteface GP50! Train #8 - The two AC4400CWs (one of them an ex-SP unit) from the grain train switch and get an SD60 out of the yard. Soon after the QSTL1J departs, the UP grain train departs.
