With the cutting season coming to an end, this video covers a complete hedge trimmer clean and maintenance routine to help keep the blades running smoothly and reduce long-term wear.
I start by dry brushing the blades to remove loose grass and debris before using Kramp Resin Remover to soften and break down stubborn sap and resin deposits. Once the cleaner has had time to work, I use a wire brush and rounded scraper to remove the more difficult build-up.
I also look at the underside of the Makita DUH610Z, including the lower blade guard and how it affects access during cleaning.
Once the blades are clean, I apply GT85 to help lubricate the moving blade surfaces, displace moisture and provide some protection against corrosion. I then briefly run the tool to help distribute the lubricant across the blades.
The same maintenance process is then repeated on the Makita EN402MP hedge trimmer attachment.
Regular cleaning and lubrication can help maintain cutting performance, reduce friction, prevent resin build-up and prolong the life of your hedge trimmer.
Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and the relevant SDS precautions when using cleaning products and aerosols.
