i don't know how much of this i'm supposed to talk about but i was contacted by a beatles fangame dev who is making a game based on mmt who was like 'yo can i use your covers??' to which i was like 'yeah but do you want other songs too?' and so here we are. i'll post about the game when it comes out so that you can play it and see ole uncle yorick in the credits. this also means i'll be doing beatles for basically a month straight to pump out tracks for the game. next up on the docket: strawberry fields. this is probably my favorite beatles song in terms of lyrics. it's really neat. john did that kind of thing he liked to do where he'd write lyrics like a math problem, where the subjects of any given line lead you to a natural conclusion at the end of the lines which then follows to the composite resolution, which is always the chorus. 'nothing you can [present-tense action performed] that can't be [result of action]' and so on and so on. fun lyrics. it implies impies that the result is a necessary predicate of the action which is basically just an effect of soft determinism. if i recall, the song john was most proud of in terms of lyrics was across the universe, but this song blows atu out of the water for me. atu has the funnier origin though - john told the story as something to the effect of 'cyn was talking and i wasn't really listening and then the phrase 'words are falling out like endless rain into a paper cup' came into my mind so i immediately disengaged from the conversation and then got out of bed and went to the piano' which is probably the most succinct summary of how john operated as an artist. his humanity and his artistry were symbiotic and intimate in a way that none of the other three were, for better or for worse. for me, that symbiosis and attitude is why john has always been my favorite. he doesn't try to put on a fake persona to make him look better than he is, he doesn't fence-sit, and he's proactive; he just is. second to cormac mccarthy and herman melville, lennon is probably my most significant artistic inspiration. i had a talk with one of my homeless friends recently. saw him for the first time in a while so i pulled over at a little ditch around the highway exit and crossed the way and went and gave him a smoke. we just kind of stood on the edge of the highway and talked for a while. nice fella. fella named austin. austin and i were kinda just standing there and talking about the difference between getting by and living, which is a pretty common and done-to-death topic, but i find homeless people have more nuanced views on that kind of thing, because they know how it is to get by and how hard you have to push to live. it's easy to say that living is 'taking advantage of your opportunites' or whatever when you have opportunities. living isn't that, he said. living is fighting and loving and nothing else, said he. if you aren't fighting, then you aren't loving, and if you aren't loving, then you aren't living. love is reality - the mind curates things that it loves and makes them permanently real in your immediate conception at all times, and that immediate presence of something you love, removed from any sense of conceptual/abstract continuity of the mind or motion at all, is love comprising reality. solipsism intimates this sense through the immediate mind (and, by extension, an active container for the mind; your body) being the only thing that is, without effort, empirically real to you at all times; you are born loving yourself in being the container of your thoughts. that blabber was me, but austin's thesis was basically just 'make your own opportunities because they aren't going to happen any other way' - which i think is pretty important in the state of the modern internet-world where a lot of people are deluded by the idea that happiness and love and goodness come arbitrarily or randomly or from anywhere besides yourself first. extraction is never good; complete and total dependency for emotional fulfillment, security, and safety in any way hits diminishing returns before you're able to realize, yet there's a strong chance that you won't see it until the rug is pulled. if you trust any nonsense i spout, trust me on that. so be there for you. all you need is love because that's all you have - and it's a pretty great thing to have, i'd say. one of my oldest homeless friends of like three or four years i ran into recently for the first time in months, too. he evidently got on substances and didn't remember me. every time that happens it kinda rattles me because i genuinely really like my friends, and it's happened more than once by now. i guess it's a reality of living in this town, but man, i dunno. i'm not gonna stop befriending people, homeless or otherwise, just because it can be hard and can hurt sometimes. there's no other way to be able to love individual people, and that makes everything worth it every time. have a wonderful day, gentlemen. god bless. love you.
