"The Making of Yang Shuang-zi's Wrinting in Taichung" invites the author back to the birthplace of her literature: Taichung. Blending her creative work with her lived experiences, we follow in Yang's footsteps, starting from Wuri in My Next-Door Neighbor Was Chang Jih-shing, returning to the childhood memory of a grocery store that everyone once knew, and untangling the mystery of how it became deserted. Next, we step into the local food scenes of Bon Appétit! Old Taichung, connecting her creative methodology of exploring urban history through food, while addressing the curiosity of outsiders wondering, "Why do Taichung people eat these things?" On a grander narrative scale, Yang Shuang-zi shares how Taiwan Travelogue centers on Taichung, using the travels of two female protagonists to map out shifts in ethnicity and social roles. This episode also points toward the deep life bond between Yang Shuang-zi and her late twin sister. Following her sister's passing, Yang walked the streets of Taichung alone. Drawing inspiration from familiar buildings, she conceived No.1, Siwei Road, transforming a Taichung street-corner building into the protagonist of a novel, imagining how women of different temperaments lived within historical architecture. Though Yang Shuang-zi currently resides in Yonghe, she still strives to write with Taichung at the heart of her work.
