Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, 'La Clownesse Cha-U-Kao,' 1895

Toulouse-Lautrec was fascinated by the café concerts, circuses and dance halls of Paris at the turn of the last century. The subject of this painting, Cha-U-Kao, was a dancer famed for her erotic dance and Toulouse-Lautrec depicted her more than once with one example now in the Musée D’Orsay in Paris.
