Welcome to a deep dive into the tragic events that occurred on November 13, 2022, in Moscow, Idaho, where the lives of four University of Idaho students—Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Ethan Chapin, and Xana Kernodle—were senselessly taken.
We will be diving deep and exploring every publicly available document, video, interview, and item of evidence to see if we can put together an accurate timeline, while we wait to see if Bryan Kohberger's post-conviction petition will be granted in connection with his request for a new trial.
In this episode, we take a forensic-style look at the initial on-scene statement provided by surviving roommate Bethany F., one of the witnesses interviewed by responding officers in the immediate aftermath of the events.
This is not an attempt to determine guilt, innocence, or intent. Instead, this analysis focuses on the investigative process:
• What information was known in the immediate aftermath
• What details helped establish the early timeline
• What observations became significant to investigators
• What areas would require clarification or follow-up
• How perception, memory, and decision-making can influence witness statements after traumatic events
We will examine Bethany's statement piece by piece, separating documented information from unanswered questions and examining how the information available at that moment may have been evaluated by investigators.
As with each episode in this series, the goal is not to tell the audience what to think, but to go back to the earliest available information and examine it carefully, objectively, and in context.
This is part of a larger forensic audit of the case: returning to the earliest evidence, reviewing the timeline, and analyzing each piece of information as it became available.
