Intha Parakelanamma - Begada - T. A. K. Swami Bhagavathar

Our channel is back with another rare rpm gem, a masterpiece by Sri. T. A. K. Swami Bhagavathar, a well reputed artist of his era. His father Sri Anantharama Bhagavathar was an asthana vidwan of Mysore Palace. This 12" record features a rare composition of Sri Veena Kuppaiyer. While everyone was recording compositions of Thyagaraja and other dramatic songs, Swami Bhagavathar has recorded a magnificent composition. This composition was recorded in the year 1934, but was never issued until 1937. Broadcast company saved some of the records of its popular artist for the last which boosted the company's sales when it was about to be closed. That is how a recording commercially released after the death of the legendary mridangam vidwan Sri Pudukkottai Dhakshinamurthy Pillai. The few broadcast records of Sri Dhakshinamurthy Pillai give us a glimpse of the brilliance of his style. Many thanks to Coimbatore Srinivasan Mohan for digitising this rare gem. #carnaticmusic #vintage #78rpm #shellac #bhaktisangeet
