Ebenezer (Here I Raise My Stone). A worship song from 1 Samuel 7, followed by the full story of how Israel's worst defeat became Yehova's greatest help.
Twenty years after the ark was captured at Ebenezer, Israel returned to Yehova at Mizpah. The Philistines marched, Samuel prayed, and Yehova thundered from heaven. Israel did not win with swords or numbers; they won on their knees. Samuel raised a stone and named it Ebenezer: "Hitherto Yehova has helped us."
Every believer has a stone behind them. Hitherto He has helped us, and He is not finished.
Written and performed by Gabriel Sakal.

LYRICS
Twenty years the ark sat silent in Kiriath-jearim's hills,
Israel mourned the God they left, their altars cold and still.
Samuel stood before the people, "If your hearts return today,
Put away the Baals and Ashtaroth, and walk Yehova's way."
They gathered at Mizpah where the prophet's word was found,
Poured the water before Yehova like their hearts upon the ground.
They fasted through the morning, "We have sinned," the people cried,
Samuel prayed for all of Israel with the nation at his side.
Chorus
Ebenezer, Ebenezer,
Here I raise my stone.
Hitherto Yehova helped us,
We did not walk alone.
From Mizpah to the valley,
Every step, His hand was there.
Ebenezer, Ebenezer,
Yehova heard our prayer.
Then the Philistines came marching when they heard where Israel stayed,
The people turned to Samuel, every heart of them afraid.
"Do not stop crying to Yehova, do not cease to pray for us,"
He lifted up a young lamb on the altar in the dust.
While the smoke was still ascending, the enemy drew near,
But Yehova thundered from the heavens and the field was filled with fear.
The Philistines were scattered, Israel chased them down the plain,
Past the hills below Beth-car, and they never came again.
Samuel took a stone and set it where the battle turned,
Between Mizpah and Shen it stood, a lesson to be learned.
He named it Ebenezer so the children would recall,
"Hitherto Yehova helped us," written for us all.
I have my own stones behind me,
Nights I thought I would not stand.
Every one says Ebenezer,
Every one still bears His hand.
Ebenezer...
The stone of help.
Not our strength. Not our swords. Not our numbers.
Yehova thundered, and we are still here.
Hitherto... He has helped us.
And He is not finished.
