From Machined Parts to Finished Weldment — Finishing the Customer Job

In this video, I finish the customer job from my previous CNC machining video. The machined parts are complete, so now it's time to fabricate the aluminum angle brackets, inspect them, fixture everything, and TIG weld the final assemblies. I go through the process I actually use in the shop — material traceability, cutting and machining the aluminum angle, inspection and documentation, welding fixture setup, cleaning and prep, tack welding, and finally welding the completed parts. The welding didn't go perfectly either. I don't weld nearly as much as I used to, and the difference between my first weld and last weld was pretty noticeable. The test pieces also helped me figure out that these thicker aluminum parts benefited from preheating before welding. I also talk about something that's easy to overlook when designing welded aluminum parts: what welding does to the temper and strength of 6061-T6 in the heat-affected zone.
