Rapport is one of the most used words in coaching, and one of the least understood. It isn’t being friendly. It isn’t smiling, asking about someone’s weekend, or treating people the way you’d like to be treated. Rapport is the ability to enter a client’s world: to understand their model of reality, how they communicate, how they hold themselves, and how they have built the problem they’re facing. In this session from a live ProCoach certification training, Tony Kaye opens Phase One of the ProCoach Code - Connection - and breaks down what rapport actually is, and why every breakthrough depends on it. In this video: • Tony’s working definition of rapport, and why it’s about responsiveness, not being liked • The difference between matching and mirroring • Physical, digital and psychological rapport • What running a bakery taught him about reading energy at the counter • Why “treat others how you want to be treated” quietly breaks rapport • The T-frame: the simplest physical rapport cue to start with • What the best communicators in the world are doing without even thinking about it Before a client will let you challenge them, guide them, or question a belief, they first need to feel that you are with them. Not above them. Not against them. With them. Great coaching doesn’t start with the perfect question. It starts with connection. The ProCoach Code is my creation. You are welcome to use it inside your own coaching business. Please respect the IP.
