Can People Count on You? | Becoming Someone Others Can Trust
What does it really mean to be someone people can count on?
In this episode of Beyond Bricks, host Kevin Stewart explores one of the most important qualities we can develop in our relationships, leadership, friendships, and families: dependability.
Think about the people you would call at 2:00 AM when something has gone seriously wrong.
Why them?
What have they done over time to earn that place in your life?
And maybe the bigger question is:
Are you that person for someone else?
Trust isn’t built overnight. It’s built through small decisions, kept promises, consistency, honesty, and showing up when showing up isn’t convenient.
Kevin breaks down five conversations that can help us become the kind of people others know they can depend on.
THE FIVE CONVERSATIONS
Do what you say you’re going to do.
Trust is built one kept promise at a time. Your words matter, but following those words with action is what creates reliability.
Show up when it’s inconvenient.
Showing up when everything is easy doesn’t tell the whole story. Dependability becomes clear when helping someone costs us something.
Be consistent, not perfect.
You’re going to make mistakes. You’re going to disappoint people. You might even be late sometimes. Dependability isn’t perfection. It’s creating a pattern of consistency people can trust.
Be the calmest person in the room.
When circumstances get difficult and emotions rise, can you become the person who brings clarity instead of adding chaos? As Kevin shares in the episode: be the person with the “lowest blood pressure in the room.”
Let people count on the real you.
Being dependable doesn’t mean having every answer or always being strong. Sometimes it means saying, “I’m sorry,” “I need help,” “I made a mistake,” or simply, “I don’t know.”
Authenticity and dependability belong together.
Ultimately, this episode is about more than being reliable.
It’s about legacy.
At the end of our lives, what would we rather have people say about us?
That we were successful?
That we were talented?
That we accomplished impressive things?
Or:
“They were there when I needed them.”
That may be one of the greatest legacies we can leave.
