Sometimes designers ask for advice on the best way to display a large chart. Our first suggestion is always to look for ways that you can use repeats to reduce the size - Kate Atherley has written several articles on this for our blog, eg https://www.stitchmastery.com/getting... and https://www.stitchmastery.com/grading... However, sometimes a chart has different stitches or colours in every area and it's not possible to condense. One option is to create smaller portions of charts and copy your stitches into these, and have each chart on a separate page of your pattern, so that they aren't tiny. To help the knitter keep track, you can set the charts to start with the appropriate row or column number, following on from the previous portion. And it can be useful to include the previous row or two in the next chart, either with a border or greyed out, and a note to remind the knitter that they've already worked those stitches. This means they don't need to flick back to the previous page if they're not clear about how the charts line up. In the video we discuss using this tactic for columns too, if your chart is very wide. This works well for charts for circular items but becomes more complicated for flat items. In the video, we suggest having the two columns at the crossover of the charts appearing in both chart and marked by a column or grey-out on both charts, with a note that these are overlap stitches and should only be worked once. Of course, some knitters will use stitchmarkers and not necessarily find it so difficult to keep their place from one chart to the next as they go along a row/round, but it's an option to consider.
