Amp Dust - Standing on Your Own (Official Audio) “Standing on Your Own” is a deeply personal song about watching my dad recover from a stroke and realizing how quickly the roles between a parent and child can begin to change. My dad is having to relearn things most of us never think twice about—walking, talking, and simply standing on his own. He told me he still feels embarrassed to talk because his words come out slurred, but he’s working at it every day. Then he texted me excited because he had managed to stand on his own. That hit me harder than I expected. Football has always been one of the things we talk about and watch together. After his stroke, I asked what he thought about that week’s games, mostly because I was trying to find something normal for us to talk about. He wasn’t interested. He was focused on one thing: getting better. And I understood. There will always be another football game.
