Join me for a peaceful walk through Duzhai, a traditional Buyi village hidden among the green mountains of Wudang District, Guiyang, Guizhou, China.
Surrounded by hills and trees, the village sits beside the gentle Adu River, with Gulong Mountain rising behind it. Away from the noise of the city, Duzhai preserves a quiet atmosphere and a glimpse of traditional rural life in southwest China.
The village has three old streets: the Upper Street, Middle Street and Lower Street. Generations of Buyi families have lived here, keeping their traditions and local culture alive.
The Buyi people in the Xinbao area have a history of settlement spanning more than 300 years. Over time, their language, customs, folk songs and traditional arts have become an important part of village life.
One of the most distinctive cultural traditions of Duzhai is its traditional folk art known as Bóna Mó, or Buyi basket painting. Inspired by patterns left in bamboo trays traditionally used for holding glutinous rice cakes, this art form gradually developed into a unique style of folk painting. The artwork often reflects Buyi culture, everyday life and people's connection with nature.
Music is also an important part of local culture. Buyi folk songs are traditionally sung during farming, family gatherings and festivals. Every year, the traditional Third Day of the Third Lunar Month festival brings people together to sing and celebrate the arrival of spring.
In this video, we'll simply wander through the old village streets, enjoy the mountain scenery and experience the peaceful atmosphere of Duzhai.
No rush, no narration — just a quiet village walk with natural sounds, birdsong, wind and footsteps.
