Mireuk – The World Before Deceit is an epic cinematic Korean mythology anthem inspired by one of the most fascinating creation traditions preserved in Korean shamanic mythology: the story of an ancient world ruled before deception entered the human age. 🇰🇷 Explore the Korean Mythology Playlist:    • Korean Mythology Anthems   🎵 Discover all Mythology Anthems playlists:    / @mythologyanthems   Enter a vast ceremonial soundscape of janggu and buk drums, deep gong resonance, daegeum flute, gayageum textures, piri-like reeds, low strings and an expansive mixed choir. A deep noble male voice rises above ethereal female harmonies as the music moves from a serene ancient beginning toward the tragic flower contest that changes the world forever. The Story Behind Mireuk: Mireuk is the Korean name associated with Maitreya, the future Buddha, but in several traditional Korean creation narratives he appears in a very different mythological role: as an ancient divine ruler connected with the ordering of the early world. In the northern Korean creation songs often known as Changse-ga, Mireuk belongs to the age when heaven and earth were still being brought into order. This first age is remembered as a world fundamentally different from the one humanity knows today. Under Mireuk, the world is portrayed as peaceful and abundant. Humanity exists before the corruption associated with the later age, and people are described as honest and good. It is a mythical era before deception becomes part of ordinary human existence. Then Seokga appears. Seokga — a name associated with Shakyamuni Buddha — challenges Mireuk for authority over the human world. Different versions preserve different supernatural contests between them, but the most important is the final contest of the flower. The two divine rivals agree that the one whose flower blooms while they sleep will gain the right to rule the world. Mireuk truly sleeps. Seokga does not. When Mireuk’s flower blooms, Seokga secretly takes it and places it with himself, claiming the victory through deception rather than rightful achievement. Mireuk awakens to a world whose future has already changed. Although he recognizes the trick, control of the human age passes to Seokga. In the mythology, this dishonest victory becomes an explanation for why the present world contains injustice, falsehood and moral disorder. The flower therefore represents far more than a simple contest. It marks the boundary between two ages. Before it stands Mireuk’s world — an ancient age imagined as peaceful, abundant and honest. After it comes the imperfect human world, where deception has become possible. That is the meaning behind “The World Before Deceit.” The song does not portray Mireuk merely as another god or heroic figure. Instead, it looks back toward the lost age connected with him: a world before the decisive act of trickery that transformed the destiny of humanity. Listen to the legend. Discover the myth.
