Det-A-Nation – Private Party (1993)

‘Private Party’ opens Det-A-Nation’s three-song run on The Soul Of Vancouver: The Untold Story, the 1993 compilation Henri Brown released on his own Rece Records to gather the city’s soul, funk and rap acts of the period. The rap on ‘Private Party’ is credited to D.K. Hype, one of only two rappers named on the album. Det-A-Nation’s other two tracks are ‘Where Do We Go From Here’ and ‘Give It Up’, and the group shares the compilation with H.B. Concept, Le Sassy, N.R.G. and The Touch. Vancouver had a working R&B and hip hop scene in the early nineties, but few of its acts made it onto record, and this compilation is one of the few places it was documented. Who was in Det-A-Nation, and who was D.K. Hype? If you know, please share it in the comments. Musicians D.K.
