Akmal Shahzad Ghumman is an Islamabad-based media professional with 28 years of experience in journalism and media. He has published his Punjabi short stories in both Pakistan and India. He is the author of the critically acclaimed book Media Mandi, a well-researched critique of Pakistan’s news media. Born on December 20, 1972, he hails from Sambrial, Sialkot. He holds master’s degrees in Punjabi and Urdu Literature and has taught media at Beaconhouse National University and Allama Iqbal Open University. He earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Lamar University, a public institution in Beaumont, Texas. Despite his technical background, he has a strong interest in history and politics. He is a passionate admirer of Gandhi, Nehru, Patel, and Ambedkar, and also greatly appreciates the work of Dr. Venkat Dhulipala, particularly his book Creating a New Medina, which Rishi describes as a "myth-busting" work. He is an alumnus of Government College, Lahore. He later studied International Relations at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, and Media and Communications at the London School of Economics. Over the years, he has worked for several leading English-language newspapers and a few other organizations.
