Voodoo Doughnuts Universal Orlando: What donuts are available? What vegan donuts? Is mobile ordering available? What are the different types of donut? How much do Voodoo Doughnuts cost? How long do they stay fresh? Are they delicious? (Spoiler alert: YES!)
You may already know that the "magic is in the hole", or that "good things come in pink boxes" but, if you are uninitiated (and don't have allergies, or need to maintain a gluten-free diet, or maybe have an aversion to overspending on donuts...), you should seriously consider heading to Voodoo Donuts Universal Orlando... maybe not on the same day as a visit to Cinnabon though?!
I can give you a doughnut lesson now to help with the overwhelming choice of over 50 (including 16 vegan) donuts.
Firstly, they're all fried!
Secondly, obviously, donuts are at their freshest for you at the point at which you purchase them and I wouldn't recommend buying a pre-selected box of a dozen or half dozen with the intention of saving some for the next day.
We find it better to choose one each and share between us to get the most enjoyable, and less expensive, experience. Of course this only works well if everyone agrees to share!
There are 2 main types of donut here, well maybe 3 if you include 'fritters', which Voodoo tells me is just "fried dough".
Cake donuts are dense, they leave more crumbs and are better at holding loose, sugary toppings. They are usually ring-shaped, but don't let that fool you as the second type, "raised" or "yeast" donuts can also be ring-shaped (such as the Miami Viceberry).
Raised donuts are fluffier, airier donuts than their cakey counterparts. Usually filled with jam; cream or custard, or covered in frosting, or both (such as the delightful speciality Voodoo Doll).
And in hindsight, maybe rather obviously, 'shell' simply means that it has a filling!
The store is a work of art in its own right and if you don't look around it while you're waiting, you're missing out on part of the experience. Much like taking the single rider line at Hagrids!
Drinks and prices shown... however, if you don't want to needlessly overspend on drinks (!) consider bringing a takeaway cup from your hotel room, or breakfast buffet!
On the other hand, you could embrace the vacation spirit and leave the store all of you bedecked in t-shirts and caps advertising the very donuts in that pink box you now hold!
