On his wedding day, Lord Shiva appeared as an old sage and claimed Sundarar as His own. Angered, Sundarar called Him "Pitha" (madman). When the Lord revealed Himself at the Arutturai temple in Thiruvennainallur, Sundarar sang this hymn in surrender. It opens the 7th Thirumurai. In verse 9, Sundarar sings that removing the sorrows of those who worship Him is the Lord's very nature.
