A Day in Taiwan That Didn’t Go According to Plan 🚌 | Bali, Guandu & Local Food
I started this trip with one simple goal: to ride Taiwan’s new Bus 115.
But as often happens when traveling, things didn’t quite go according to plan. 😂
A long wait, hot weather, unexpected bus rides, and a few spontaneous decisions completely changed my itinerary — and somehow made the journey even more interesting.
⚠️ No sponsorship or paid promotion. Just a personal travel experience!
My journey began in Bali, New Taipei City, where I visited the Museum of Archaeology and learned about the lives and traditions of haenyeo, the female divers of Taiwan and South Korea.
I also discovered something fascinating about traditional Taiwanese fishing boats — why do they have “eyes” on the front?
After the museum, I was supposed to take a bus to my next destination. But because of the waiting time and the heat, I changed my plans.
Instead, I hopped on a Red 22 bus… and ended up in Guandu! 🚌
Since my original itinerary was already out the window, I decided to simply go with the flow.
And what better way to do that than with a plate of Hainanese chicken rice? 🍗
The meal didn't look particularly impressive when it first arrived, but one bite completely changed my mind. The tender chicken, ginger-garlic sauce, spicy and sour sauce, and refreshing sago dessert turned out to be one of the biggest surprises of the day.
After lunch, another Red 22 bus ride brought me back toward Bali Ferry Wharf.
I also had an important family mission to complete — buying Shuangbaotai, a traditional Taiwanese fried pastry. 😋
Along the way, I picked up some nostalgic Taiwanese snacks that reminded me of childhood.
My final stop was Bao'an Temple, where I enjoyed a cup of bubble milk tea from Hong Cha Wu and took some time to explore this historic temple, traditional Taiwanese religious culture, architecture, fortune telling, and divination blocks.
This wasn't the itinerary I originally planned.
But maybe that's the fun of traveling.
Sometimes the unexpected bus, the wrong turn, or a last-minute decision becomes the best part of the journey.
Travel, just like life, doesn't always have to follow the route we planned. 🌿
At the end of the video, I'll also be opening some nostalgic Taiwanese snacks to find out whether they still taste as good as I remember from childhood. 🍬
