About five years since my last upload, and as Part 3 of the very well-received "Air Conditioner Outdoor Unit Propeller Fan Startup Compilation" series, this time I've gathered startup scenes of propeller fans driven by induction motors (so-called AC motors), which were used in outdoor air conditioner units of a bygone era.
Please enjoy the bold, dramatic startup unique to induction motors without inverter control — spinning straight up to full speed all at once, accompanied by the "click" of the relay!
Note that while the compressors themselves are inverter-controlled, many of these units date from the early days of inverter air conditioners, and each model produces its own distinctive magnetostriction hum. I'd love for you to pay attention to that as well ♪

6:45 There were also variable-speed types. The variable-speed mechanism works via tap control, switching between motor windings, and produces a relay click when switching.
7:25 The motor operating on its own. This makes the "straight to full speed" characteristic easy to see. Also, pay attention to the coasting rotation when it stops — the way an outdoor unit's fan spins loosely in the wind is something unique to AC motors, which have no cogging torque.
9:37 The way the fan revs up with a rising whine during startup is also something unique to AC motors ♪
