No Campsite, No Plan: Sweden's Wilderness Road at Midnight

I left Grodkällan in the afternoon. The plan was simple: ride Vildmarksvägen — Sweden's famous Wilderness Road — and reach Trappstegsforsen with enough daylight to find a decent tent spot.The road had other plans.What makes Vildmarksvägen special is also what makes it unforgiving. Mile after mile of forest, water, and gravel. Beautiful. Remote. And nowhere obvious to stop. I passed Trappstegsforsen as the clock pushed toward midnight — still no clearing, still no flat ground. At this latitude in summer, the sun never really sets and it does not get pitch black. It just dims to a deep Arctic blue, and you keep riding because what else are you going to do?I finally pitched the tent well past midnight, somewhere on the far side of the falls. Exhausted. Relieved. Exactly where I was supposed to be.No rush. No crowds.
