You already know the answer. You’ve checked it, thought about it, maybe even asked someone you trust.
They tell you everything is fine.
You feel better.
And then, a few minutes later, the doubt returns:
“But are you sure?”
Why does reassurance feel so powerful — yet often last for such a short time?
In this video, we explore the psychology of reassurance seeking: why uncertainty creates such a strong urge to ask, check, search, reread, or get one more opinion — even when you already have enough information.
You’ll discover how reassurance can create immediate relief, why that relief can unintentionally strengthen the urge to seek reassurance again, and how intolerance of uncertainty can keep the cycle going.
We’ll also look at the difference between genuinely seeking useful information and repeatedly searching for a feeling of certainty that no answer can permanently provide.
In this video:
• Why reassurance feels so relieving
• The difference between information seeking and reassurance seeking
• How the reassurance cycle can reinforce itself
• Why uncertainty can be harder to tolerate than a bad answer
• Why repeated reassurance may weaken trust in your own judgment
• How reassurance seeking can affect relationships
• Why Googling, checking messages, and endless research can become reassurance behaviors
• How to recognize when you already have enough information
• How to build confidence without needing absolute certainty
The goal isn’t to stop asking for advice or reassurance altogether.
It’s to recognize when you’re no longer looking for new information — you’re trying to make uncertainty disappear.
Because real confidence doesn’t mean knowing exactly what will happen.
Sometimes it means being able to say:
“I don’t know exactly what will happen — and I trust myself anyway.”
