Sunday morning. Best shirt on. Bible sitting on the passenger seat. Church is right there. And you’ve been sitting in the parking lot for eleven minutes. The service already started. You could still leave… and blame parking. Except there are six empty spaces. And… GOD KNOWS YOU’RE LYING. 😂🙏 I DIDN’T HAVE TO CLEAN UP BEFORE I CAME TO GOD is a Gospel Soul / Blues / Hip-Hop story about the Sunday morning when a man almost convinced himself he needed to become a better person before he was allowed to walk through the church doors. His clothes look right. His life doesn’t feel nearly as put together. Friday included an argument with somebody he loves. He said things he wishes he could take back. Ignored a phone call he should’ve answered. Spent Saturday pretending none of it bothered him. Now that clean Sunday shirt feels like… FALSE ADVERTISING. So he makes a deal with himself: Maybe next Sunday. After I fix a few things. After I pray better. Talk better. Live better. After I feel more worthy of walking inside. Then comes the question that changes everything: “If I wait until I don’t need grace, what exactly am I coming here for?” 🙏 He finally gets out of the car. Walks toward the church. And immediately meets an older woman at the door. “Good morning, baby.” “That’s it?” “That’s what?” “Nothing.” “You coming in or decorating the sidewalk?” 😂😂😂 So he walks inside. And something remarkable happens. Nothing remarkable happens. Nobody stops the piano. Nobody points. Nobody asks for his week’s performance review. Nobody checks whether he’s made enough progress to qualify for a seat. The woman beside him simply moves her purse and says: “THERE’S ROOM.” Three ordinary words. But sometimes three ordinary words reach somewhere a sermon hasn’t gotten to yet. And that’s when the message becomes clear: I DIDN’T HAVE TO CLEAN UP BEFORE I CAME TO GOD. That doesn’t mean accountability disappears. He still needs to make the apology. Still needs to return the call. Still needs to work on the parts of himself that keep making the same mess. Grace isn’t permission to remain careless. But there’s an enormous difference between those two ideas: “Changing because I’m loved feels different than trying to become lovable.” That’s the heart of this record. Church isn’t a showroom for finished people. The door isn’t a finish line. It’s a door. You don’t have to pretend you’ve had a spotless week before walking through it. You don’t have to turn every struggle into a polished testimony. You don’t have to answer “How are you?” with a perfect smile when you’re carrying three things you haven’t told anybody. You can come with questions. Come with regret. Come tired. Come unfinished. THERE’S ROOM. 🙏❤️ And just when our guy thinks he’s made it through Sunday without anybody noticing those eleven minutes in the parking lot… the older woman catches him on the way out: “Next Sunday, don’t sit in that car eleven minutes.” “How’d you know?” “Baby… everybody can see the parking lot through those windows.” … “Oh.” 😂😂😂 Sometimes grace comes with a little embarrassment too. 🙏 LIKE if you’ve ever felt like you needed to get everything together before coming to God. ❤️ SHARE this with somebody who needs to hear two words today: There’s room. 🔔 SUBSCRIBE for more original Gospel, Soul, Blues, Hip-Hop, R&B and genre-blending music from WarDog Music Group. 💬 COMMENT: What does “THERE’S ROOM” mean to you?
