Spiritual awakening begins with seeing that the mind is a distortion field. In this talk, James explains why thoughts only make us miserable when we attach to them, and how the ego's endless story of "I am this" or "I am that" keeps us from the peace that is already here. Drawing on Brad Blanton's Radical Honesty, Shankara, Walt Whitman, and Keats, James shows why you are not your body or your mind, and why the self-image society hands us becomes a little prison we spend our lives measuring. He shares his own path from an angry, self-hating teenager to freedom through meditation, contemplation, self-inquiry, prayer, and surrender. Through simple images, like sitting on a riverbank while garbage drifts by, or a still pond settling after a stone is thrown in, James points to the unconditioned presence beneath thought: pure awareness, your true self, a stillness the storms on the surface never touch. If you're tired of being run by your own thoughts, this teaching turns to a simpler question: who are you before you name yourself? 📖 Ten Paths to Freedom — James's book on spiritual awakening: https://a.co/d/0gujPRv 🔔 Subscribe for teachings on spiritual awakening and nonduality.
