Don't Blame the Refs | Chiefs V Broncos Week 8 Recap | Ep. 31

ashee Rice caught the game-winner and a false start erased it. Stefan and Mark both say the Chiefs had no business being in that spot. An 11-point lead with 8:55 to go and an 89 percent win probability, and Denver scored two touchdowns and a two-point conversion in about two and a half minutes. The Chiefs committed 11 penalties for over 100 yards, missed another field goal, and still had the game one yard from being won. Mark is more upset about this one than the Seattle blowout — and both hosts refuse the officiating narrative making the rounds. Championship teams don’t depend on the officials. They dig into the problems that have now stacked up across eight games. Short yardage on both sides of the ball: the Chiefs stuffed Denver twice near the goal line and still couldn’t punch it in themselves, which brings back the quarterback sneak argument and whether Justin Fields should be on the field for third and inches. Walker went 21 carries but the last two defenses have built their plans around taking him away, which should have been the week Xavier Worthy or Cyrus Allen ate — instead Allen pulled up on a route that was a potential game-breaker with Worthy open on the same play. Emmett Johnson led the team in receptions and broke a kick return that gave them the chance at the end. On defense, Bo Nix was awful for three quarters and Denver didn’t make a first down in the third, but the screen game and the flats keep converting third and long. Then they zoom out to the trade deadline hours away, and both land in the same place: don’t mortgage the future for a rental. They go position group by position group — quarterback, running back, and cornerback are good, and almost everything else is average at best. Plus Butker, the Simmons leak, Kingsley’s benching, a defensive line with talent and no production, and whether Chris Jones has to be moved after this season. The Jets are next at Arrowhead. Stefan says 30-17. Mark says 27-17. #chiefs #chiefskingdom #thefranchisechiefs #chiefsbroncos #nflweek8 #nflnews #podcast
