*GRAFFITI ASIA — FULL DOCUMENTARY* Before graffiti across Asia became globally visible through social media, Graffiti Asia travelled from city to city documenting the writers, crews, walls and local scenes developing across the continent. From Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong to Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Jakarta, the film captures a generation of graffiti scenes that were still finding their own identities. *MAKE A BOOK WITH SOI* Have an archive, body of work or story that could become a book? We work with artists, photographers, musicians and cultural projects to turn their material into beautifully made books. *https://www.soibooks.com/make* Through conversations with local writers and footage from the streets, Graffiti Asia looks at what happens when a culture with roots in New York travels thousands of miles and becomes something local. Different languages. Different cities. Different attitudes. Different styles. What makes the film particularly interesting now is that it has also become an archive. These were young and rapidly developing scenes when we filmed them. More than fifteen years later, the walls have changed, the cities have changed and many of the artists have moved on. The film captures a particular moment in the development of graffiti across Asia. Graffiti Asia was made alongside the book project of the same name by Ryo Sanada and Suridh Hassan. *GRAFFITI ASIA* *Director:* Suridh Hassan / @shazdirector *Producer:* Ryo Sanada / @ryosrk More than 15 years later, Suridh and Ryo continue to work together through **SOI Publishing**, making books around art, photography, music and visual culture.
