3-Day Backpacking Trip along the Old Loggers Path in Pennsylvania

A 21 mile 3-day backpacking trip along the north loop of the Old Loggers Path in Masten, Pennsylvania. We hiked the loop counterclockwise camping at Rock Run and Long Run along the way on a rainy weekend in May 2026. Despite the rain, we had a great time exploring this area for the first time. The trail’s history is connected to Pennsylvania’s early 1900s logging industry, and much of the route follows historic railroad grades and old logging roads through the forest. Along the way, we encountered beautiful mountain streams, scenic vistas, and countless reminders of the region’s past. The terrain was only moderately difficult, making for a very enjoyable walk in the woods and great weekend escape. One thing to keep in mind: this area has a healthy population of rattlesnakes, particularly around the rocky overlooks on Sullivan Mtn on warm sunny days!
