2002 D&B Promo Mixtape (Ft. Escha) | Vinyl Mix | DEEDS

This one means a lot. Originally recorded directly to cassette in 2002, this 30-minute B2B with Escha was made as a promo tape for our Dubplate Sessions nights at Club Mombasa in Canberra. The recording was later transferred from the original tape to digital, which is why it still exists today. The 30-minute length was deliberate. It filled one side of a cassette and gave us something we could physically hand to people at the gigs. But these tapes weren’t really about promoting ourselves as DJs.. They were about the music. Dubplate Sessions was about exposing people to the Drum & Bass we believed in, building a scene around it and giving people a taste of what they would hear at the nights — alongside the local crew and the visiting DJs we were bringing through Canberra. Listening back now, the selection immediately puts me back in that early-2000s sound: RAM Trilogy, Accidental Heroes, Technical Itch, Ed Rush & Optical, Calibre, Q Project and Cause 4 Concern. Rolling, technical, deep and futuristic D&B that represented where the music was heading for us at the time. More than two decades later, this has become something I could never have understood when we recorded it. It’s a surviving piece of a time, a scene and a friendship that I can’t go back and recreate. The gigs finished. The tapes disappeared. People moved on. The music evolved... and sadly, Escha is no longer here. So I’m incredibly grateful that this particular tape survived, and that a small piece of what we were doing together can still be heard. I can’t get those memories back, but I can preserve this one - Rest in peace Escha. DJing since 1995. 🎧 TRACKLIST: 00:00 – ID – ID 01:00 – Bring It On (RAM?) 06:24 – Accidental Heroes – Soulfood 09:16 – RAM Trilogy – Incarnate 11:58 – Technical Itch – The One? 15:33 – Ed Rush & Optical – Rehab 19:10 – Calibre – Proof Positive 21:52 – Q Project – Skeeza 25:29 – Cause 4 Concern – Sarin 📸 Follow DEEDS:   / deedsmixes     / deedsmixes   #DrumAndBass #DnB #CanberraDnB #DubplateSessions #Escha #DEEDS #2002DnB #OldSchoolDnB #ClassicDnB #DnBHistory
