Cathedral Grove & Little Qualicum Falls | Vancouver Island Road Trip

Come along for another day of my Vancouver Island road trip, as I leave the east coast of the island and begin making my way toward Tofino. After spending some time around Parksville, including a little seaside wandering and mini golf, I head to one of Vancouver Island’s most remarkable natural attractions: Cathedral Grove in MacMillan Provincial Park. Cathedral Grove is home to magnificent old-growth Douglas fir and Western red cedar trees, some hundreds of years old. I arrived early to beat the crowds and had the chance to explore this beautiful temperate rainforest while it was still wonderfully quiet. From there, I head to Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park, where what sounded like a pleasant walk turned into what I can only describe as a rather gnarly hike. There are ancient trees, beautiful forest trails, waterfalls, questionable road crossings, and several moments where I announce that I may not survive the experience. Spoiler: I did. Next stop on the Vancouver Island adventure is the west coast and Tofino.
