From the Royal Palace to the Historic Plazas, Madrid’s streets unfold with history and everyday life. We begin at the Royal Palace of Madrid, commissioned by King Felipe V in the 18th century. Designed by Italian architect Filippo Juvarra, the palace reflects influences from Versailles, French Baroque traditions, and Italian ideas associated with Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Grand halls, elegant courtyards, and formal gardens speak to Spain’s royal past. Though no longer a royal residence, the palace remains a setting for major state ceremonies. From the palace grounds and panoramic viewpoints, we continue on foot through central Madrid. Our walk passes through Plaza de la Villa and Plaza Mayor, where layered architecture and daily street life meet. These classic streets reveal Madrid’s character at an unhurried pace. Our journey ends outside the Prado Museum, home to works by Velázquez, Goya, and El Greco.
