The Matrix Is Not Science Fiction - It's a Documentary

Everyone files The Matrix under science fiction. I think that's the wrong shelf. Strip out the leather and the bullet time and what's left is a film about systems that run without anyone at the controls, about how much of what you accept was never chosen, and about whether seeing clearly is worth what it costs you. None of that is invented. The Wachowskis just built a safe container to say it in. So this one isn't a review. It's a case — that a movie about a simulated world is telling you more true things about the real one than most films that claim to be about it.
