Magic the Gathering's "Worst" Color | MTG Color Philosophy and History Explained

Is White really Magic’s “good” color—or is that simply the image created by Angels, healing spells, and heroic Knights? In this MTG color philosophy deep dive, we trace White from Alpha’s 1993 rulebook through Mark Rosewater’s explanations of the color in 2003, 2015, 2021, and 2025. Along the way, we examine the Plains, the White mana symbol, and the philosophy connecting White’s lore to its mechanics: peace through order.
