OPTO Comp on bass — an optical compressor (LA‑2A style) with metering explicit enough that you can see exactly what you're doing to the signal. Free 30‑day trial: https://zeropink.net/opto-comp/
In this walkthrough we level a bass guitar in three moves: push the INPUT to 0 VU, dial in PEAK REDUCTION until the needle shows about 2 dB, then compensate the OUTPUT back to 0 VU. Input, processing, output — linear, every time.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
Why gain staging into a compressor matters more than the ratio
Reading a VU meter: input, gain reduction and output on three needles
How much compression a bass actually needs (less than you think)
Why oversampling keeps saturation smooth instead of prickly
OPTO COMP
Optical compressor based on the classic T4 opto‑cell circuit, with prescriptive metering: STAGE IN, REDUCTION and STAGE OUT readouts tell you what to do next, not just what's happening. Oversampling up to 16×. Tooltips on every control.
