Some songs take you somewhere. Glow takes me back. Blackfield's Glow is a beautiful, intimate and deeply melancholic song that connects with some uncomfortable memories from my youth. There's something about its combination of sensitive vocals, rhythmic instrumentation and gradually emerging guitars that creates a strange contrast: the music can feel playful and alive, while the emotion underneath it feels completely empty. For me, Glow is about loneliness. That feeling of not being good enough. That feeling of having something torn out of your heart and soul, leaving nothing but emptiness behind. And when the guitars finally become more prominent towards the end, the song seems to slowly drain whatever is left. Beautiful. Dark. Painful. And deeply personal. Thanks for listening with me. 🖤 What does Glow make you feel? Sidenote | There's some interference in the first few seconds (soundwise), sorry about that.
