Mac mini M6 Storage: Is an External SSD Actually Cheaper?

Should you pay Apple for more Mac mini M6 storage, or add an external SSD? The answer depends on more than the drive price. UPGRADE RADAR explains the front and rear port limits, gigabits versus gigabytes, enclosure compatibility, the full cost of an external setup, App Store installation options, Photos libraries, and backups. The 10Gb/s and 40Gb/s figures are connection limits. The 1.25GB/s figure is a theoretical unit conversion before overhead, not a measured transfer speed. Compare current local prices with matching memory, processor, capacity and tax treatment.
