How the Highstreet has changed in the 40 years up to 2022. In 1982 I was very concerned about the number of old buildings disappearing in the town so I photographed Orpington high street to create a record I have gone back at regular intervals ever since to photograph and then in 2022, the year of the platinum jubilee, video So what has changed between 1982 and 2022? I will be preparing a series of videos showing how the high street has changed over these 40 years. Although the pictures are from Orpington the changes were mirrored in many towns across the country This video shows the changes between Knoll Rise and Homefield Rise and include some quirky features, including an elaborate sky light and old Electricity related machine. It also covers the old Tescos, a detailed look at some shop fronts and some old independent shops including Stanley Woods the bakers and the Golden Egg. The lead image shows how the National Westminster bank and the shop next door looked before the bank expanded into it.
