Who Shares Your Shoreline? Shoreline Biodiversity on a Large Adirondack Lake. Sept. 22, 2026

Shorelines are critical habitats for wildlife and natural corridors of movement through the landscape, frequently supporting higher levels of biodiversity than surrounding habitats. The condition of uplands surrounding lakes has direct consequences for water quality, with development, agricultural use, vegetation removal, and creation of impervious surface all contributing toward increased runoff, pollution, sedimentation, and declining water quality. Michale Glennon, Director of Research at AWI, together with Graduate Research Fellow Alec Cimini, are documenting bird, mammal, and amphibian occurrence along the lakeshore and Michale will share the results of this work and provide recommendations for how you, too, can benefit wildlife on your shoreline.
