Intersex people represent approximately 1.7 percent of the global population—about 136 million people—born with variations of sex characteristics that do not align with typical notions of either a female or male body. In recognition of Intersex Awareness Day (October 26) and Intersex Day of Solidarity (November 9), the Global LGBTQI+ Human Rights Program and Outright International hosted a webinar exploring the different forms of discrimination and violence experienced by intersex people around the world, as well as the global intersex rights movement. The conversation highlighted recent successes and ongoing challenges and created an intimate space for Changemakers Network members to ask questions, share perspectives, and engage in dialogue about the “I” in the umbrella acronym. The views expressed in this video are those of the speaker(s) at the time of recording and do not necessarily reflect those of the Carr-Ryan Center for Human Rights or Harvard Kennedy School. These perspectives have been presented to encourage debate on important public policy challenges.
