Zimbabwe is positioning its energy sector for major investment, regional integration and private-sector participation.
At the inaugural Zimbabwe Energy Forum for Africa (ZIM_EFFA 2026), Gloria Magombo delivered remarks on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Energy and Power Development under the theme “Investment Opportunities in Zimbabwe’s Energy Transition.”
The address highlights Zimbabwe’s ambition to expand generation capacity, modernise transmission and distribution networks, accelerate renewable energy development, expand rural electrification and strengthen regional energy trade.
Among the key opportunities highlighted is an estimated US$9.1 billion pipeline of energy projects over the next five years, spanning generation, transmission, distribution, off-grid electrification and clean cooking, with approximately US$4.42 billion expected from the private sector.
The address also explores:
• Zimbabwe’s renewable energy ambitions and distributed solar opportunities
• Regional power integration through the Southern African Power Pool
• The Batoka Gorge Hydroelectric Project and opportunities for private-sector participation
• Investment opportunities in transmission, distribution and off-grid energy
• Net metering and regulatory reforms designed to strengthen investor confidence
• Innovative and blended financing for energy projects
• Zimbabwe’s approach to creating a more predictable and bankable investment environment
As Zimbabwe works to move from ambition to action and from commitments to delivery, the opportunities across its energy value chain are increasingly significant for investors, financiers, technology providers, developers and regional partners.
