Campus Cravings reports $34,000 in net income, but its cash balance increases by only $5,000. Where did the difference go? In this complete Statement of Cash Flows masterclass, we follow the actual cash and build the full statement step by step.
In this Principles of Financial Accounting lesson, you’ll learn how to:
• Classify cash receipts and payments as operating, investing, or financing.
• Prepare operating cash flows using the indirect method, including depreciation, gains, losses, and working capital adjustments.
• Work through equipment purchases and sales, borrowing, stock issuances, and cash dividends.
• Reconcile the net change in cash to the beginning and ending cash balances.
• Prepare the direct-method operating section and explain why both methods produce the same operating cash flow.
We use a fictional business, Campus Cravings, and introductory U.S. GAAP. The objective is to understand the decisions behind the numbers, not memorize a collection of signs.
