DEAD MALL: Mall 205 - The Mall of Mystery

PATREON PAGE:   / exploreoregon   The deadest of dead malls in the Portland area is no doubt Mall 205, located in the southeast part of town. It opened to great fanfare in 1970 and has struggled ever since. Today many of its storefronts stand empty with reminders of past businesses. But beyond its deadness there is a strange feeling people can get walking through the dead part of the mall, a feeling of coldness and dread. As I mull this aspect of visiting this place over I delve into the history of the site that the mall was built upon to see that it has a somewhat troubling past. Primarily, this site was the location of the Morningside Hospital, a hospital for the mentally ill.
