They are practicing for a lahar, a volcanic mudflow from Mount Rainier that could reach their town in under an hour. In this video, we look at how two massive mudflows, the Osceola and the Electron, shaped the valley, why a whole region of Puget Sound sits on their deposits, and how one small town turned preparation into a way of life.
