Join us for Basement Session 30 featuring an exclusive DJ Set. For this session of The Bass Foundation, a Tech House DJ set by Steve Martin Producer of the Bass Foundation. This track list was first performed at White Rabbit Sept 19th 2026, and recorded today Oct 1st 2026 in studio. Dive into the vibes directly from our basement Studio. Steve Martin’s history behind the decks stretches back to the late 1980s, when he began DJing in New Brunswick. During those early years, he played clubs including the Brass Bar and Pub Lafontaine, continuing there until around 1994. By the late 1990s, Steve had moved into the Hull/Gatineau scene, playing venues such as Inextremis and Le Bop. His involvement in electronic music continued to grow, and around 2007 he became part of VirtualDJ Radio while also producing an electronic music podcast through iTunes. That eventually developed into a syndicated radio show that was carried by stations across several Canadian provinces and territories. Over the years, Steve performed at a wide variety of events and venues in the Ottawa–Gatineau region. He appeared at two editions of Picnik Électronik Gatineau and organized the Fresh Beat DJ event at Confederation Park for several years. The event later moved to the National Gallery of Canada as part of Canada Day celebrations, where it continued for several more years. Around 2011–2012, Steve could also be heard behind the decks at venues including BPM in Hull and Buddha Bar, and Sunrise after hour in Ottawa. After stepping away from DJing around 2015, Steve returned to the decks in 2026 and launched The Bass Foundation, a project built around DJ culture, underground electronic music and the local DJ community. The Bass Foundation's Basement Sessions feature a different guest DJ regularly, giving local artists a place to perform, share their sound and reach a wider audience through professionally produced live and recorded sessions. Musically, Steve’s sound is rooted in Tech House, Deep Tech, Minimal and underground House, drawing on decades of experience while continuing to explore the modern underground electronic music scene. In 2026, his return also brought him back into the club environment, including a performance at White Rabbit in Ottawa, alongside DJs Zack Black, Anthony Dunn and Brink. For Steve, The Bass Foundation is more than a DJ show — it is a continuation of something that began behind a pair of turntables decades ago: bringing DJs, music lovers and the local electronic music community together.
