When a honeybee colony suddenly refuses to consume pollen patties, it becomes a major concern for beekeepers, as it directly impacts the colony's development. The primary causes include poor-quality pollen—such as moldy, sour, or pesticide-contaminated supplies. Additionally, erratic weather, an abundance of natural nectar sources (making bees reluctant to take supplemental feed), or a weak or diseased colony can reduce their appetite. To remedy this, beekeepers should inspect the feed quality, adjust the sugar-to-water ratio to make it more palatable, and clean the hive frames to encourage the bees to resume feeding.
