When the stove is lit, he sits at the end of the jetty in his wool cap, watching the snow fall and the sky turn blue. It is a lonely place, but he is not entirely alone. A friendly arctic fox comes down from the shore most evenings to keep him company, never too close, never quite leaving. He calls her Naali, which is simply the Finnish word for arctic fox, because that is exactly what she is.
