Was life actually better for ancient humans? Most people think our ancestors died at 30. They didn't. Their children did. In this story we look at what science really says about life before modern medicine: hunter-gatherers whose adults often lived to around 70, a people in the Amazon with the healthiest hearts ever recorded, the Hadza who move more in one day than most of us do in a week, and the early farmers who got shorter, sicker and lost their free time. Then we count the one cost that changes everything: about half of all children never reached 15. Better or worse? The answer is more surprising than either side thinks.
