With this unprecedented level of advancement, we also evolved the ability to share cognition with other species and living ecosystems. Disease can be repaired at the cellular level, forests can communicate, and human civilization has spread across the stars. When a signal arrives from Arthur, a Wayfinder lost beyond mapped space twenty-three years earlier, veteran explorer Elias Vale is sent aboard the AJAX with Restorer Prime, a leading medical scientist, and an elite Astral Corps crew. They carry the Earthseed, containing the living inheritance of humanity’s ancestral world. But at humanity’s brightest hour, the universe shows that it is much larger and unforgiving than we imagined. Beyond the frontier, in deep space they find Arthur, and something far older: an intelligence that has destroyed connected civilizations by exploiting their collective networks.
