A prominent political figure from Eluru, Alla Nani began his political journey with the Congress and contested the Eluru Assembly constituency in 1994 and 1999. After facing electoral defeats, he won the Eluru seat in 2004 and was re-elected in 2009. He later joined the YSR Congress Party and was elected as an MLC in 2017. In the 2019 Assembly elections, he returned to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Eluru and subsequently served as Deputy Chief Minister and Health and Medical Education Minister in the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government. He also handled the Health portfolio during the COVID-19 period. Following the 2024 Assembly election, Alla Nani left the YSR Congress Party and joined the Telugu Desam Party in February 2025.
