What is the best credit card in South Africa in 2026? In this video, we compare six major South African credit-card providers — FNB, Capitec, Discovery Bank, Nedbank, Absa and Standard Bank — to help you understand how their credit cards, fees, rewards programmes and benefits differ. But choosing a credit card isn't simply about finding the card with the biggest advertised reward. A card with a lower monthly fee may offer fewer benefits, while a more expensive card may provide rewards, travel benefits or other features that could be valuable depending on how you use it. The real question is which credit card offers the best combination of cost, rewards, benefits and borrowing terms for your personal circumstances. CREDIT CARDS COMPARED In this South Africa credit card comparison, we look at: FNB — eBucks Rewards, different credit-card levels, monthly fees and the importance of your wider FNB banking relationship. Capitec — the credit-card fee structure, initiation fee, monthly fee and personalised interest rates. Discovery Bank — Discovery Miles, Vitality, Discovery's wider rewards ecosystem and the difference between advertised rewards and the value you can realistically receive. Nedbank — Nedbank Gold and Platinum credit cards, monthly fees, Greenbacks and the costs associated with rewards. Absa — Gold, Premium Banking and Private Banking credit cards, monthly fees, recommended income levels and Absa Rewards cashback. Standard Bank — Blue, Gold, Titanium, Platinum and World Citizen credit cards, monthly fees, the initiation fee and UCount Rewards. WHAT WE LOOK AT We also look at the wider banking relationship. FNB has eBucks, Discovery has Discovery Miles and Vitality, Nedbank has Greenbacks, Absa has Absa Rewards, and Standard Bank has UCount. If you already use other products within one of these banking ecosystems, that can affect the overall value of the credit card. And perhaps most importantly, we discuss the cost of borrowing. A credit-card reward only creates value if the cost of using the card doesn't outweigh the benefit. If you regularly carry a balance and pay interest, the interest cost needs to be considered alongside any cashback, points, miles or other rewards you receive. Cash withdrawals and other transactions can also attract additional charges. CREDIT CARD FEES DISCUSSED The video covers current 2026 pricing examples including: • FNB Aspire and FNB Private Clients • Capitec credit card• Discovery Bank Purple Suite • Nedbank Gold and Platinum• Absa Gold, Premium Banking and Private Banking • Standard Bank Blue, Gold, Titanium, Platinum and World Citizen The video also discusses credit-card rewards, cashback, eBucks, Discovery Miles, Vitality, Greenbacks, Absa Rewards and UCount Rewards.
